Festive Cinema Trips at Vue - Creating Joy, Connection, and Lasting Memories

"Simple experiences like going to the cinema can mean so much to children and families. Sharing time together, laughing, and enjoying a festive treat helps strengthen relationships and creates positive memories that last long after the credits roll."

Lara Munro, Director of Operations, All Life Chances

"It was my first time going to the cinema with my whole family. I loved the film and having popcorn together. It made Christmas feel really special."

Katie, age 9

Background

Over the festive season, we were delighted to enable 400 children, young people, and their families to enjoy a cinema experience at Vue Cinema in Aberdeen.

Thanks to the generous financial support of two All Life Chances partners - Fowler McKenzie and Petrex Energy Services - families who may not otherwise have been able to afford a cinema trip were able to enjoy a shared experience during a time of year that can be particularly challenging.

In the lead-up to Christmas, 200 children and their families attended a screening of Home Alone, while a further 200 children attended during the holiday period to watch The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. For many, this was their first visit to the cinema, and for others, a rare opportunity to spend relaxed, enjoyable time together.

Support provided

Thanks to the generosity of Fowler McKenzie and Petrex Energy Services, All Life Chances was able to:

🎟️Provide cinema tickets for 400 children, young people, and family members

🎬Offer festive film screenings during both pre-Christmas and holiday periods

⭐Create a welcoming, inclusive experience for families to enjoy together.

Support required

For many families, the cost of cinema tickets, snacks, and travel can be a significant barrier. Continued support is needed  to:

🎬Fund accessible cinema and cultural experiences for families

🍿Cover tickets and refreshments so children can enjoy the full experience

⭐Reduce financial pressure on families during school holidays and festive periods.

Impact

🌟Joy & Wellbeing: Children experienced excitement, fun, and relaxation during the festive season
👥Family Connection: Shared experiences helped strengthen family bonds and create positive memories
🎄Festive Inclusion: Families were able to take part in a traditional festive activity without financial stress
Confidence & Belonging: For first-time cinema-goers, the experience helped build confidence and a sense of inclusion.

Future plans

🎯Continue offering holiday activities that support family wellbeing

🎯Expand partnerships to fund cultural and recreational experiences 🎯Secure funding for transport, accommodation, and meals for outdoor education opportunities

🎯Increase access to inclusive outings for children and families across Aberdeen.

Working in partnership

We work closely with local businesses and community partners to remove financial barriers and create meaningful experiences for children and families. The support from Fowler McKenzie and Petrex Energy Services demonstrates how partnerships can have an immediate and positive impact, especially during challenging times of year.
